Oldest ISP in Singapore

Pacnet started its root as TechNet, a closed R&D computer network for academics set up at National University of Singapore in 1991. It was incorporated as “Pacific Internet” in 1995.

First ISP in Singapore to embark on regional expansion

Pacnet started its regional expansion with the acquisition of Hong Kong’s Pacific Supernet Limited in 1996 and gradually to the Philippines, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia and India over the years.

First Singapore/Asian - based ISP to be listed on NASDAQ

Pacnet is listed on the United States’ NASDAQ board since February 1999 and remains to be one of the few profitable NASDAQ-listed ISPs with strong emphasis on revenue and profit growth.

First ISP in Singapore to launch Internet gaming shop locally

Pacnet was the first ISP to set up Internet gaming shops in Singapore in October 1999. It opened three on the same day at Plaza Singapura, Suntec City, Capitol, called Pacific Internet City.

First ISP in Singapore to be awarded “Best Asian ISP” for four consecutive years

Pacnet won the Readers’ Choice Awards for “Best Asian ISP” from 1999 to 2002 by leading industry publication, Telecom Asia.

First ISP in Singapore to be awarded “Best of Singapore IT” for 3 consecutive years

Pacnet won the “Best of Singapore IT - ISP” awards from 1997 to 1999 by leading industry publication ComputerWorld Publication.

Pacnet is the first local ISP to launch an anti-spyware service in Singapore in April 2005.

First ISP to offer full suite of wireless service in Singapore

Pacnet was the first ISP to offer a full suite of wireless broadband services for homes, offices, and hotspots in Singapore with the introduction of Wireless@Office service in January 2002.

First Singapore-based ISP to operate GPRS roaming peering point

Pacnet is the first and only ISP in Singapore to operate Singapore’s first neutral peering point for GPRS roaming.

Pacnet is the first and only Singapore-based ISP to offer both ADSL and cable broadband services to local users.

First ISP in Singapore to open an Internet Café

Pacnet operated the first Internet Café in Singapore that offered wireless surfing at Boat Quay in 1996.

First ISP in Singapore to trial on wireless service

Pacnet is the first ISP to carry out pre-WiMAX trial in Singapore in 2004. This wireless technology is set to bring Internet access to greater height in Singapore.

First ISP in Singapore to broadcast NDP over Internet

Pacnet was the first ISP in Singapore to broadcast the National Day Parade celebration program over Internet using multicast backbone, so as to enable overseas viewing of the program in real-time.

Organiser of the first WWW conference in Singapore

Pacnet is the ISP responsible for the first WWW conference ever held in Singapore in 1995. The event involved more than 200 participants from commercial organizations, education institutes and government bodies.

Pacnet was the first ISP in Singapore to use satellite technology to receive the transmission of Internet traffic.

Pacnet was the first ISP in Singapore to launch SDSL broadband services.

First ISP in Singapore to offer unlimited broadband access

Pacnet was the first ISP in Singapore to start the offering of unlimited access of broadband Internet service.

First ISP in Singapore to launch a one-stop Internet bundle for Student Market

Pacnet was first in market to launch an integrated PC, printer and Internet access package for all students in Singapore in August 1999.

First ISP in Singapore/region to receive CaseTrust’s acknowledgement

Pacnet was the first ISP in Singapore/region to receive CaseTrust’s acknowledgement in adopting good business practices in online retailing. The CaseTrust scheme was a joint effort by CASE, RPC and CommerceNet Singapore Ltd (CNSG) that gave its stamp of approval to retailers with good business practices.
