Homepages are also known as web pages, simply because they exist on the Internet. They are actually files, which end with "html" or "htm", very much the same as the word documents that you save as a "doc" file on your word processor. In this case, these "html" and "htm" files are stored on a server, which is a computer with special software that lets it send the pages to another person's computer. Pacnet gives you with 5 MB of free disk space for your personal homepage. You can create your homepage with our instant homepage generator, EZHTML if you don't know anything about HTML. Alternatively, you can create your homepage with HTML by using a program, such as notepad. Creating your Personal Homepage require self-administration. Pacnet do not provide support on the use of any utilty. You should use your dial-in password. Your homepage is stored on one of our homepage servers. Your homepage address is http://home.pacific.net.sg/~youruserid. If you are using a FTP program, use your dial-in userID and dial-in password and login to the homepage server by inputting the address "http://home.pacific.net.sg". Then, make sure you go to the public_html directory and save your homepage files there. HTML is the acronym for Hyper-Text Markup Language. It is the language you use to write web pages. You will need to upload your files to our server in order for others to access it on the Internet. You can do it either with the EZHTML file upload or use a FTP program. Your homepage directory is assigned automatically to one of our homepage servers when your page is created. When you access your homepage via http://home.pacific.net.sg/~youruserid, our system maps this to one of our servers at http://home1.pacific.net.sg/~youruserid etc. The assignment may change when necessary, so please ALWAYS use http://home.pacific.net.sg/~youruserid. Did you name the first page of your homepage as index.html? Your homepage url will call up index.html by default, so you should name your first page index.html. If you haven't, what you can do is to re-save your file as index.html and upload it again. Yes, you can. All you have to do is to log in to EZHTML, select the Create/Edit Homepage function and call up the file you want to edit. You have to paste it in using a text editor, eg Notepad. You can check out our Homepage Tutorial for information and resources on how to do it. You can submit it to various search engines such as Yahoo! and Google for listing. |
