Various global measures are being implemented to manage spam. Pacnet shares the same concerns. Pacnet’s Mail Guard Anti-Spam was the first service of its kind launched in Singapore.
Other efforts Pacnet has undertaken to address spam include:

- Dedicated abuse response team to handle spam-related issues/feedback.
- Collaborative efforts with other Internet Service Providers on anti-spam initiatives, including cooperative measures to address subscribers’ complaints, tracing of spam sources and taking steps to stop the spammers.
- Opportunities to work with different bodies to implement appropriate public education programs.
- Special advisories at Pacnet’s retail outlets and during road shows.
Some of Pacnet Mail Guard Anti-Spam’s benefits include:
- Hassle-Free
No hardware or software is required to be installed in the user’s computer. Users need only subscribe to the service and leave the work to Pacnet’s spam scan engines to filter spam e-mails. It’s that simple.
- First Level Scanning
It scans and filters e-mails that go into users’ “In Box” and transfers it to a web-based quarantine folder (“Bulk Mails”* Folder) when detected and identified as spam e-mails. This allows user to review the doubtful e-mails without the risk of choking up the “In Box”.
- Mail Review
The quarantined mails in the “Bulk Mails”* folder can be quickly reviewed and either forward or delete according to users’ preference.
- Email Address Specification
User can specify email addresses under the “Buddy List”** to ensure they are only receiving e-mails from their trusted sources. Enter friends’ email addresses in the “Buddy list”** to be sure these emails are never missed.
Emails specified under “Junk List”** will be moved to “Bulk Mails”* folder.
- Daily Email Summary
Subscribers to MailGuard Anti-Spam service will now receive a daily summary email containing all the possible junk emails that have been sent to the “Bulk Mails” folder. In a single glance, users can now identify emails within that folder that may be important and do the necessary. This saves them from having to go to their “Bulk Mails” folder to check for emails that may have been wrongly classified.
